International Art Exhibition
14 November 2004 - 3 April 2005
Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti,
Rosa Barovier Mentasti and Pier Luigi Pizzi
The Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti inaugurated the restoration of its second premises and the arrival in Venice of a new international cultural centre with a tribute to the art of glass.
The rooms and garden of the Palazzo Franchetti hosted 170 works by more than 80 contemporary artists from Australia, Bohemia, France, Germany, Holland, Great Britain, Sweden, the US and Italy.
Spectacular installations, sculptural objects in highly personal forms, were chosen to document the numerous technical and expressive backgrounds that typify the Studio Glass movement.
The scientific design of the exhibition was by Rosa Barovier Mentasti, a recognised historian and expert in the field.
The staging was curated by Pier Luigi Pizzi, an internationally renowned set designer and theatre director. The scientific technical documentary section, produced by the Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro, was presented on the piano nobile of the Palazzo Loredan. It offered a display complementing the exhibition, illustrating by principle themes the history, techniques and technologies of early and modern Venetian artistic glass and of the current glass industry.
