Silvano Rubino was born in Venice. After graduating in painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, from the 1980s onwards he made an intensive study of the most diverse artistic disciplines. His interests included dance-theatre, stage-set design, all of which provided a wide scope for his installations. Initially, his primary influences were works from the Renaissance, the late 19th century and Expressionism, and it was from these that he drew inspiration. Until the 1990s he produced paintings, before turning his attention to other genres: installation, photography and video. In 2001 he started using glass, producing design objects, and including it with other materials, such as marble and steel, for some installations.
